Unlike many of the top women players like the Williams sisters, Sharapova, Safina, Ivanovic, Petrova etc, she's small in stature, but counters this disadvantage with speed around the court, aggression, guile and perhaps most importantly - she's rock-solid mentally. Many of her contemporaries seem to specialize in folding under pressure, but this weakness almost never affects Melanie.

Melanie's New Racquet, the Wilson Blade 98 Pink BLX
Melanie's just changed her contract to supply her tennis clothing and women's tennis shoes from adidas to Wilson. Now she's completely under the umbrella of one company for her tennis racquet, tennis bag, shoes and apparel.
Wilson are already known for the finest racquets that money can buy - just ask Roger Federer and the Williams sisters - but with effortless ease, their tennis know-how seems to have transferred nicely to shoes and apparel, with plenty of style and essential comfort features.
