Julia Goerges - Her Tennis Gear, Her Tastes & Her Talent
German women's tennis is looking good again, with at least five players now able to trouble the world's best. In Sabine Lisicki, Andrea Petkovic, Angelique Kerber, Mona Barthel and 2011 Porsche Grand Prix winner, Julia Goerges, Germany not only has a great Fed Cup team, but individual players talented and determined enough to win tournaments.
Born on 2nd November 1988, Julia's start in tennis was similar to many women tennis professionals: Her parents took her to the local tennis club in Bad Oldesloe early in life, aged 5, and she immediately took a liking to the sport and quickly found out she was good at it.

Julia idolized the smart play of Martina Hingis in the women's game when she was young, and like countless others of her generation, Roger Federer in the men's.
Her own early career was a slow burner, as she steadilly ascended the rankings, but all too often met a big name player early in the Slams. It gave her the experience of playing high profile tennis matches, but no experience of winning them.
By the end of 2009, her loss to 15 year old Laura Robson showed how far she still had to go to compete at the highest level.
Julia's recent successes and rise into the world's top 30 is a culmination of all the wise words from her coach Sascha Nensel, (Nicolas Kiefer's former coach), who instilled into Julia the belief that only the utmost professionalism, ambition and self-sacrifice would lead to her tennis dreams coming true.
In the coming year, Julia is hoping to work on her consistency - she sometimes plays a good match and follows up with a very poor one soon after. If she's ever to see her name on a Slam Trophy, she'll have to address this problem. She's trying to model her backhand on top ten Serbian player, Jelena Jankovic, but in view of her performance against Caroline, she hasn't got far to go in that department!
It's no great surprise, for a woman that admires Roger Federer so much, to see Julia with the same sponsors as her hero, with her Nike tennis clothing. Julia now wears tennis clothes from the Nike Rally Knit range like high flyer, Petra Kvitova.
She's changed her tennis racquet at the start of 2012 from Wilson to Babolat, with the top of the range Pure Drive tennis racquet. It's suited to her aggressive game and the new styling looks particularly menacing! She'll be in good company as Kim Clijsters and Li Na use the same 'weapon'.
Julia's Tennis Bag has changed with the change of racquet as you might expect. Also new for 2012, the Babolat Team Blue 6 Racquet Holder is a more manageable version of the larger bag Julia carries, and has the pockets-for-everything professional tennis players expect.
If Julia wasn't able to play tennis but was still fit, she'd love to participate in the Biathlon, usually a winter event that involves cross country skiing and rife shooting - not an obvious choice for a tennis player!
Another aspiration of Julia's was to be a hotel receptionist. I expect that with the money she's likely to earn soon, she'd be better off buying one, like Rafael Nadal has done in Majorca.
An ideal day for Julia would be listening to music, meeting with friends, (in tennis, either her German Fed Cup teammates or her old friend Patty Schnyder), and then on to a movie, preferably to see Hugh Grant, Jennifer Aniston, or Julia Roberts in the lead role.
Julia appreciates that professional tennis gives her the opportunity to see many places around the world, and to see other peoples and cultures.
On the rare occasion where she has the time and her mother is with her, they visit local tourist attractions and places of interest. Spain and Mexico are two of her favorites, but perhaps Australia (home of her favorite Slam) is the place in which she'd like maximum time to relax and explore.
